Annual general meeting 2013

The third annual general meeting of the East Iceland Sustainability Initiative was held at the shopping centre Fróðleiksmolinn, Reyðarfjörður, on Tuesday, 7 May, from 13:00 to 17:00.

Chairing the meeting: Páll Björgvin Guðmundsson, mayor of Fjarðabyggð.

Nearly 50 people attended, including reporters from all of the most important East Iceland

 media. Hugi Ólafsson, guest lecturer and director general of the Ministry for the Environment, informed those attending of Iceland’s position and role in climate change. The most important measurement results for Sustainability Initiative indicators were presented, including those from last year on the release of greenhouse gases and on fluoride found in vegetation by Reyðarfjörður fjord; water surface levels, bank erosion and aquatic biota in the Lagarfljót lake and river; bird and reindeer counts; and the social aspects being gauged by the Initiative.

Last on the agenda was group work, where the questions under discussion concerned the formulation of future policy for the Initiative.
